For a client project, I needed an FTP -- and preferably an SFTP -- server integrated into the web site. Of course it is possible to use the one built into IIS, or else use a linux server or some other solution. Instead, I found and tested one that gave us a lot more integration.
The Xlight FTP Server runs on just about any flavor of Windows, installs is a few seconds, and can be configured to run multiple virtual ftp and sftp servers. I've opted for the Professional version with the SFTP add on module, and the cost totals up to $190.
In just a few hours -- most of which was spent configuring Domino -- I was able to use the LDAP authentication built into the Professional version to use Domino users for authentication almost right out of the box. Just turn LDAP on for your Domino server and you're all set. Then you can get more advanced.
The Xlight FTP Server can be almost fully managed and configured through LDAP. That means if you add their extended LDAP schema attributes to Domino, you can control how your FTP and SFTP server behaves. Once I set it up, I was able to set specific FTP home folders for each user just by writing the path I wanted to a field on their person documents.
So, with the Xlight FTP Server, you have a fairly cheap, very full featured, and highly configurable solution that ties extremely well into your Lotus Domino directory services.
