Got stuck in DC last night in the longest thunderstorm I've ever seen
By Andrew Pollack on 06/26/2006 at 10:38 PM EDT12 hours straight of lightening storm. Anyway, I did get these AMAZING pictures at the Udvar-Hazy museum. I got to stand next to the Space Shuttle "Enterprise", an SR-71, Migs, a Concorde, a Corsair, missiles, and even a Kamakaze. Look closely at the Kamakaze -- its actually a bomb. Just a torpedo shape with a detonator visible on the front, a jet engine on the back, and a tiny cockpit. No eject, no landing gear, and very little steering control. Just fast and deadly.
I heard there was a stealth bomber there, but nobody could find it.
when I walked over to the mall (I stayed in Tyson's Corner) in the evening.
There was a storm that night.
Sunday was different. By 1pm there was heavy lightening I could hear from
inside the Udvar-Hazy museum, and at 1am when I was in the hotel room (Hampton
Inn by the airport) I could still hear thunder. It had never stopped for more
than a few minutes.
The airport flooded in several places -- underground walkways were slick with
standing water, busses were re-routed to the upper decks in front of the
terminal, etc.

We've been having weather like that here since last Thursday. There's been
some insane lightning storms over the last few days. Last Thursday was the
biggest one though. Rain total over the weekend was something like 7 inches.
It's starting to feel like Seattle around here. :)
