So a week or so ago I was in Baltimore to speak at the Advisor conference. Of course, the folks at Advisor did a great job as they always do. A surprise to me was how Baltimore has become more interesting. My knowledge of that city is very limited, having visited only once before. On that occasion, first I made a poor choice of routes while driving into the city and went through an area that is not on any of the tourist brochures to be sure. Then, the day before I was to run a booth at the conference the PC I'd brought blew a power supply in the hotel room. I had to drive out to the burbs to a "Best Buy" store where I purchased an Antec case with a power supply in it, and transferred the guts of the little HP desktop machine into the great big new case sitting on the floor of a hotel room. Other than this, my only experience with Baltimore was watching its less attractive side played out on HBO's fabulous show, "Wired".
This time around, a took a Southwest Airlines flight from Manchester to BWI for under forty dollars and a cab ride to the hotel. The waterfront was really hopping the whole time I was there, restaurants and nightclubs were everywhere and seemed always busy. I watched the election results come in until nearly four in the morning on a T.V. in the lobby with a mixture of political junkies from all over with as wide an array of backgrounds as you can imagine. Overall, a great time.
Same city, two different views.
