Too many emails makes me rescind permission to send.
By Andrew Pollack on 04/21/2008 at 11:20 AM EDTThere are two sites I do business with that I've given permission to email me from to time with updates that I may find of value. Unfortunately, these two sites have confused this permission with what they seem to perceive as a desire to get these emails daily -- or sometimes several times a day. As a result, I'm removing this permission from both sites.
The idea of "opt-in" email updates is a good one, but companies need to understand the difference between "Yes, send me an update if something good comes along that matches my past purchases" and "Yes, please spam me three times a day with every special you run in case I might by interested". They are not the same thing.

The two I had in mind were Tiger Direct and Soccer.com. I have no doubt that
buy.com is bad -- they've been polluting search results for years. From that
perspective they're likely as bad as Experts Exchange.
