This picture is from last year. I didn't bring a camera this time around so just for you I dug this one up from someone's collection.
Our town hosts this fair each year, one of many such harvest fairs that have been going on in Maine forever. Its mostly a farming community thing -- lots of animal contests and tractors for sale. There's a small midway, a racetrack where you can bet small sums on the trotters (harness racing, not like the Kentucky Derby) and of course a huge amount of good greasy food.
Since most of my fire department work is done "on-call" its a good time for me to get to walk around in my uniform and do what I do best -- stand by. Nobody stands by better than I do. Some people are the best at extrication or rescue work -- me, I'm the best there is at standing by.
What a great way to clear your head and get back to work.
