I just sat through "The Life Aquatic" for no reason I can determine. It started out sucking, and it sucked straight through. It wanted to be some kind of cross between "Buckaroo Banzai" and "Zoolander" and failed on all counts. What a shame, it was a good idea.

any of the films by the director who directed that (can't remember his name).
my friend (whose name is mike) is a very visual person. he felt like the
material was good, but wasn't pulled off very well. he said the comedic timing
was off on almost everything, and visually the way scenes were put together
didn't work for him.
i on the other hand probably come at things more from a pure writer's point of
view (not real sure how to define that), and i loved this movie. and i loved
the other things by this director that i've seen as well. my take is, he is
real strong on the writing piece, maybe not so strong on the directing piece.
although personally i liked the directing. the comedic timing and so on worked
for me.
