Here are some pictures I took at tonight's "Special Operations" training. Three cars were set aside in a junk yard and our crews were able to practice using the cutters, spreaders (aka jaws of life) and other tools of destruction. If you're not a firefighter, you probably don't get to see tools like this being put to use. Enjoy.

Neither fire fighter nor New Yorker am I,
Nor public servant of any sort
Instead I stand, an average honest citizen,
And watch with admiration
Those women and men
Who staunch the horrid flow of flames
Pouring out from the very gates of hell
Across this great land
So many of you serve
With well-earned pride
And too little appreciation
Let it be known
That the people you save,
Whose lives and homes and businesses you protect,
Are thankful
For your contribution
To the health and security
Of our national community
