Well friends. I was wandering Wal-Mart today, having promised the kids a treat for working their tails off all day while I finished painting the bathroom and re-installing all of the things you would normally expect to find in a one. What I found was shockingly awesome. For $20 each I purchased two games. The first, looks like an Atari 2600 Joystick -- by itself. In fact, that's exactly what it is, only when you add 4 AA batteries, it has 10 built in original Atari games! The whole unit plugs directly into the RCA input jacks on your TV. The power, reset, select, and fire buttons are all on the unit itself. For that $20, you've bought an Atari 2600 with 10 games. Cool! Add a second device along the same idea, but this time its a Nameco style joystick. Built into this one is Pac-Man, Dig-Dug, Gallaga, and a couple of others. From what I can tell, playing the games they really "feel" like the original code -- bugs and all. I even remembered my way through the mazes in Adventure. Pac-Man had the movies, Adventure had the weird bugs that let you cross into "hidden" territories.
Very cool. Every bit as good as I recall. Since I'm a mean dad, this is the first and only game console my kids have ever used. They love it.
