First, here's the quote from "bcrowell" on /. "Y'know, I was just saying to myself, "Self," I said to myself, "you really need an enterprise datacenter architecture that leverages middleware based on robust frameworks." Wow, they must have been reading my mind! --

Larry & Scott are proof of the bad things that can happen when you give a pair of egomaniacs enough success to let them do whatever dumb-ass things comes into their heads. Who remembers the "Sun - Netscape - AOL Alliance" that was going to bring us utopia through iPlanet? Did ANYONE think that kind of ridiculous alliance could be stable?
So, now is Larry and Scott once again trying to start their own tree house fort with a big sign on it (in crayon) that says "Everyone can come in but Bill". Grow the hell up, boys. You have business to run and responsibility to shareholders. If you want to compete with Microsoft, build something good. Lotus does it, Intuit does it, The Linux open source crowd does it. Digium does it. LOTS of people do it. You two just have to pull you heads out of ....er....the sand....long enough to work on your own products and strategies and quit doing everything with one eye on how you can "hurt" Microsoft.
