"New Material is extremely strong — and Transparent
The stuff is really strong, really stiff, and lasts a long time. It isn't porn though, it is a polymer.
From TFA: "Science Daily — By mimicking a brick-and-mortar molecular structure found in seashells, University of Michigan researchers created a composite plastic that's as strong as steel but lighter and transparent."

highway and i had this thought that someday they would able to build really big
things (like highways maybe) that would be made out of something i think of as
"plasteel" (a term i'm sure i got from a sci fi novel i don't remember). it
would be plastic, but as strong as steel, and thus really easy to form into
whatever shape they want. in other words, let's say you had a highway that was
clearly designed by ppl who were not able to think past the next ten minutes,
and had only given us two lanes (like say, the toll road i get on every
morning). with plasteel they could add an upper deck in a short amount of time,
very cheaply and quickly. at least theoretically.
soooo weird that you posted this today.
