Hi all. Too tired to write up the Domino tech stuff I promised. I'll have to do it tomorrow. Meantime, I found a great little firm that sells all the stuff you need to extend your wireless network. I've got excess bandwidth here, so I'm going to give my neighbors on two sides internet access! I've got 50' of cable, connectors, lightning protection, and a high gain external omnidirectional antenna that will hang from the eaves in the corner near my garage -- with line of site to both houses. It cables to my Linksys 802.11g wireless router. On the neighbors side, I've got 15db gain unidirectional panel antennas to hook to a pair of linksys ethernet bridges which then use ethernet cables to go into the existing ethernet controllers on the pc's. Sweet! Aim those puppies at the unidirectional "home base" and they should have seriously nice connections. Top it off with a nice Orinoco PCMCIA card which can handle its own external antenna, and a high gain omnidirectional unit that can fit in my briefcase, and I'm ready to rock from the laptop. Maybe I'll take up wardriving!
Anyway, Jeff (sales@fab-corp.com) was fantastic by email. He helped me figure out just what to go with, make sure all the fittings, connectors, cable ends, lightening protection, etc.. were perfect. The package I got included absolutely every single thing I needed right down to the electrical tape and sealing tape for protecting the connection. The only thing they didn't send me was the 8' copper ground spike, which I opted to purchase locally -- but it was offered.
I'll give you all a status update when I get this gear hooked up.
