Hi all.
I wanted to tell you about a tool I've been testing for a while now. Its called "Absolute Eraser Pro". The product is designed to erase your tracks when you use your computer. I'm sure its meant as a privacy tool for the most part, but that's not its primary value to me.
What the tool does that is most valuable to me, is it totally cleans any and all cached and temporary stuff dumped on the drive by Microsoft Internet Explorer. It does this for Windows too -- but its I.E. that really was my need. You see, even if you set IE to delete stuff much of it gets saved. I kept having trouble because I couldn't do a "View Source" on web pages due to the cache being full. Yuck.
Absolute Eraser Pro will run on demand, or in your system tray. It has "profiles" you can set up, two of which are predefined. "Quick Erase" gets run when you shut down IE and "Complete" gets run when you shut down windows. As I said, you can also use the menus to do specific tasks or all of them at any time. It can also be used to shut down all instances of your browser at once.
It will remove all cookies, cached files, temporary files, favorites lists, stored passwords, indexes, history files, -- all your tracks. For me, I turn off some of that. I want to keep some history, and my favorites folders. I also want to keep some cookies (there's a menu you can use to select which). I don't keep stored passwords, but many people do. Its all configured in one nice, neat place.
The result for me was dramatic. I got back lots of disk space, and VAST performance. I've been suggesting it to neighbors with old dogged out machines and they tell me running it just once brought their PC's back to the performance they had when they were new.
Awesome product. Go get it.
