I woke up this morning to no network connectivity here in my home/office. Given that I have both a cable and dsl connection, with failover managed through my sonicwall firewall this is an extremely rare event. How did it break? I broke it.
I recently moved from two servers at Serverbeach to a single more powerful server at The Planet. Having put the order in to cancel the two at the beach, I'd forgotten about it. My firewall, however, did not. It is configured to monitor the two connection paths by watching a connection to a primary and alternate site on the internet through each connection. I'd been using those two servers for the job. This morning, those two servers went away. As a result, my firewall decided that both my WAN connections had problems and simply dug a hole and crawled in, covering the hole after itself. Ah well, easily fixed of course.
