Hi all --I've been really busy so haven't written much. On Thursday I drove two hours to the airport, waited two hours for the flight, then flew three hours to Orlando. That was the easy part.
Once I got my baggage, I took a cab a few miles to the heavy equipment rental place where I got my 14 foot U-Haul. Sounds easy? I had a cabbie like you read about. No English, no directions, and no driving ability.
Once I got to the U-Haul dealer (which was an ancient equipment shed with a small office on a dirt lot next to an orange grove) I was able to rent the U-Haul. This is an eleven year old Ford 3/4 ton truck with a 14 foot long box on the back and over the cab. The truck has 170,000 miles on it and I'm pretty sure the original suspension parts.
It took about an hour and a half to find the UPS center, and another 40 minutes for them to collect all 42 boxes of shirts and bring them out on a pair carts. By 8pm I'd tossed the boxes in the back and headed to the hotel.
You might be a redneck if you check into a place called "The Yacht Club" driving a U-Haul.
So far, 13 of the 42 boxes have been passed out to the sponsors. Here's a tip if you're looking to make sure you get one. The overwhelming majority of them will be passed out by sponsors who are exhibitors, from their booths. There are 2100 shirts this year. That's TWICE the number from 2004 (CULT SHIRT on HUMAN) and 40% more than last year's (Zen of Collaboration).
The THEME for this year's shirt is "Notes Man Group" -- take a look. We're also giving out a great prize again this year. It is a cool, black, iPod Nano -- engraved to commemorate the 2006 C.U.L.T. shirt gathering. You could be the winner this year. The shirts are being passed out along with a card that explains how the drawing will be handled.
Here are some teaser pictures showing (in order) Front, Back, Right Sleeve, Left Sleeve.
