You may have noticed the last blog entry had some text from a book. NO corrections were required in the scan. It scanned exactly what was on the pages of the book you see pictured. Small text, on a 14cm page in a table. One pass scan, auto-read into text, and the table was intact. I just copied and pasted. The other pages as well, required no editing at all. I had no idea that OCR had come this far. The program it came with is "ABBYY FINEREADER 5.0 SPRINT PLUS" and its awesome.
Epson really delivered with the model. Its fast, but its quiet enough to sit by my desk within reach. It has a "several in one" (I haven't counted) memory card reader -- but since the printer is already connected to the PC on the USB port, EPSON makes that a drive for your PC as well. So while I COULD take the camera memory card and print directly from it, instead I take the card and put it into the printer and get a folder in XP with the files so I can open them in Paintshop Pro or whatever
Its a rear-fed printer, meaning the paper feed stands up in back. That means very little bending on the path and tends to be more flexible than the ones that use a flat tray underneath. I had no trouble with cd labels or heavy stock, but also no trouble with cheap paper. I also really like that Epson gives me 4 distinct ink cartridges so I don't have to toss away a bunch of unused ink each time one color runs out.
Very nice.
