Those of you who know me have heard me rattle on about Caitlin's unusually logical approach to everything she does, and how it can be a little frustrating when combined with a 4 year old's typically short attention span. Caitlin is a four year old girl and may be the most frighteningly bright, analytical, and logical person I have ever met. I say that having met a very large number of frighteningly bright people (many of whom read this blog).
As you read this little anecdote, remember that this is the same child who at three was running through the spring grass last year in bare feet for the first time of the season and suddenly stopped, looked up, and declared "Over here where the sun is shining the grass is warm, but over there where its shady the grass is cold." -- then promptly when back to running and squealing in delight of the beautiful spring day.
This morning, I told Caitlin she could wear shorts to school, as long as they were a longer pair that goes to her knees. She came down in a perfect choice pair of long shorts. Barbara went back upstairs a few minutes later to find that every pair of shorts Caitlin has was neatly laid out on the floor, in order of length. She had checked, determined the longest pair, and then promptly left everything else where it was, having completed her job.
