According to BBC News, the Vatican is about to announce something as forward thinking as allowing the use of condoms by married people to prevent the spread of disease in cases where one has a terrible disease like AIDS. In this stunning step forward, it seems there may for the first time be recognition that sex may be considered for purposes other than procreation. Massive amounts of thought and prayer -- though of course no practical research -- must have gone into this decision.
Overall, this is great news and important for my Catholic friends. After all, I think this whole idea of sex as a part of life for purposes other than having children may just take off -- at least for married couples.
