Spring is finally here!
A sure sign is annual host testing on Engine 1. We spent the morning yesterday pulling all the lines off the truck, filling them and holding pressure (ranging from 100 pounds on the 5" feeder lines to 250 on the inch and three quarter hand lines) for five minutes, the cleaning them and loading them carefully back on the truck.
This is something we do each spring, as soon as the temperatures at night are reliably high enough that we don't have to pump out the hydrants with a hand pump after each use and we won't create an ice field as we flow several thousands gallons of water into the street.
Its nice to have the truck all re-packed and checked. It inspires confidence.
