Well, the Cumberland main street Olympic Training Center (aka Greely High School) fielded 3 state championship teams so far this weekend. Girls Field Hockey, Boys Cross Country Track, and then Girls Volleyball. There are two more teams (boys and girls soccer) both in contention as well. Ari had a friend over last night, so I did something I normally wouldn't do -- I brought her and her friend along for the escort.
Tradition in our little town is that when a high school team wins a state championship we meet them at the town line with every fire truck, rescue vehicle, and any other flashing light or noise making thing we can think of. The bus pulls up, and we flank it -- a few trucks in front and a few in back -- and escort them to the high school with as much sound and fury as can be made. If it happens to be the middle of the night, so be it.
Last night, at midnight, my oldest daughter and her friend sat next to me in the front of Engine 1 while we led the noisiest, flashiest parade you can imagine. Great fun was had by all.
