Cheap and easy wireless boost from Radio Shack
By Andrew Pollack on 02/14/2004 at 07:47 PM ESTHere's a simple product that does just what it says. For your Linksys 802.11b or 802.11g wireless router, Radio Shack sells part number 278-844. It is simply a pair of antennae to replace the ones that come with the router. These are longer. That's the secret. They're longer. Technically, the replace the standard 2.2dbi ones with 5.5dbi ones. Basically, they're longer. Its $29.95 -- but may be worth it if you need just that last bit of gain. I've got in in use here, and it does work.
Of course, it helps if you get a good wifi card for your laptop as well --- the Orinoco Gold is the best I've used and a huge improvement over the linksys.
