The new phone book is here!

Well, even if you're not a big fan of Steve Martin you probably recognize that line. If not, well I'm sorry for you.

at long last, the new blog software is done enough to make live. Some of the features of this new version are related to just making it a smoother, more comfortable feeling interface. I've added "remember me" functionality -- mostly for Ben -- and a few other nifty goodies. The design now allows me to extend a lot further with a lot less effort, so you'll be seeing new stuff pretty soon.

Features on the way:

TrackBack - I've printed the spec, and it looks simple enough to set up.

Voting - I'll get this back online soon, and will be adding the average rating along with the number of comments to the RSS feed.

Flames! - just wait

Skins - yep, I plan to have a different skin for each type of post.

Let me know what you think. This is the version that will eventually get released into the wild.

So long as it remember's meBy Ben Langhinrichs on 06/23/2004 at 11:21 AM EDT
I'm really pretty easy. Blogs are like women. If they look good and remember your name in the morning... what more can you ask?
There are a few oddities when running 800x600By Ben Langhinrichs on 06/23/2004 at 11:21 AM EDT
And don't even say "Don't!". Actually, it looks like you have an odd little bug even in larger resolutions. The Author/Email/Web Site/Subject fields all expand beyond the box when you start to enter a value. Thinking outside the box is one thing, but writing outside the box might get your crayons taken away, as I learned in Kindergarten. It still remembers me! I am so excited!

There's lots of instructions out there around using "LetsEncrypt" or whatever to generate short lived SSL certificates for Domino, but if you want to use a full blown certificate authority -- or maybe your company does self signed certificates and you want to use those, here's a quick reference. Prerequisite: You should already have ......
  2. 01/26/2023Better Running VirtualBox or VMWARE Virtual Machines on Windows 10+ Forgive me, Reader, for I have sinned. I has been nearly 3 years since my last blog entry. The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. VirtualBox was barely starting, and no matter how many features I turned off, it could ......
  3. 04/04/2020How many Ventilators for the price of those tanks the Pentagon didn't even want? This goes WAY beyond Trump or Obama. This is decades of poor planning and poor use of funds. Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything. Not just killing people and breaking things, but ......
