Anti-Spam vendor for Notes uses Spam and bogus award

By Andrew Pollack on 09/12/2003 at 04:30 PM EDT

No secret here, that good friend and fabulous anti-spam software writer Mark Ramos is my own preferred hands down winner of any anti-spam software award for Notes. Its also no secret that I think good competition is a good thing.

I must say though, I was deeply disappointed in the ethics implicit when Mayflower Software was awarded "Editor's Choice" for their "SpamSentinel" product (no link to this product because I don't WANT to link to them) by "InsideDomino". Interesting, because the Editor-In_Chief of Inside Domino is Frank Paolino who is also the founder and President of Mayflower Software.

Hmmm, the Editor's Choice is the software written by the Editor's Company. And to boot, they used mass email to market this farce.

Spread the word, blogmates!

They say a fish stinks from head.

Ah yes, InsideDomino. A quality "publication" if ever there was one... Not.

Yeah, that DOES stink... much like when Stampede Technologies (many year ago)
would spam the Lotus Support forum with "discussions" about some cool software
that some "user" had found... They didn't know that we could trace IP
addresses, and we traced the postings back to the company...

: Yeah, I got the same email. I wonder if I would have seen it if I were using
their product? Hey, that'd be an interesting slogan "You wouldn't be reading
this is you have our software!"

And insideDomino is really p*ssing me off. 90% of the spam I get I get from
them.

grumble grumble,

-Chris

InsideDomino spamBy Ed Brill on 06/23/2004 at 11:21 AM EDT
Thanks for the heads-up Andrew.

For those of us who have actually judged "Editor's Choice" awards or Lotus
Beacons, this is insulting.  We should probably start a discussion in the BP
Forum about this as well -- to keep other partners apprised of the cheesy
tactics being used in the community.

There's lots of instructions out there around using "LetsEncrypt" or whatever to generate short lived SSL certificates for Domino, but if you want to use a full blown certificate authority -- or maybe your company does self signed certificates and you want to use those, here's a quick reference. The truth is, I haven't had much to say that was worthy of more than a basic social media post -- until today. For my current work, I was assigned a new laptop. It's a real powerhouse machine with 14 processor cores and 64 gigs of ram. It should be perfect for running my development environment in a virtual machine, but it wasn't. VirtualBox was barely starting, and no matter how many features I turned off, it could ......

Certainly it should have been addressed in the Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan administrations -- all of which were well aware of the implications of a pandemic. I want a military prepared to help us, not just hurt other people. As an American I expect that with the ridiculous funding of our military might, we are prepared for damn near everything.
